Client: Judi's House

One in 12 children will lose a parent or sibling before they turn 18. Judi’s House was founded to make sure none of them has to go through it alone. Pushkin PR has been proud to support Judi’s House for over two years, helping the organization launch a major new facility, build national thought leadership, and run a landmark public awareness campaign around childhood bereavement.

What is Judi's House and what does it do?

Judi’s House / JAG Institute is a Denver-based nonprofit grief center founded by former Denver Broncos quarterback Brian Griese and his wife, clinical psychologist Dr. Brook Griese. Named for Brian’s mother, who died of cancer when he was 12, Judi’s House provides free bereavement support, including therapy, education, and therapeutic programming, to grieving children and their families. Its research arm, the JAG Institute, conducts and publishes national research on childhood bereavement and trains the next generation of grief-informed clinicians.

How did Pushkin PR support the grand opening of Judi's House's new Aurora facility?

In summer 2023, Judi’s House opened a purpose-built $16 million, 26,470-square-foot facility in Aurora, a major milestone after 20 years of operating out of repurposed spaces in Denver. Pushkin PR ran the media relations campaign for the grand opening, resulting in coverage from every major Denver television network and multiple print and digital publications — including Denver 7 ABC, CBS Colorado, and the Sentinel Colorado. The coverage helped introduce the new facility to Aurora’s diverse community and reinforced Judi’s House as the region’s leading resource for grieving children and families.

What was the 1 in 12 campaign and what did it involve?

Each year, the JAG Institute publishes research on the rate of childhood bereavement in the United States. Pushkin PR helped launch the 1 in 12 campaign to raise public awareness around the organization’s core statistic: that 1 in 12 children will experience the death of a parent or sibling before age 18. The campaign was built around a dedicated microsite with resources for families, clinicians, and nonprofits. It also included a nonprofit toolkit, a community mural at the Stanley Marketplace, media relations, digital advertising, and community events, a fully integrated effort designed to make a compelling statistic impossible to ignore.

How has Pushkin PR helped position Judi's House as a thought leadership organization?

The clinical team at Judi’s House are among the country’s leading experts in childhood bereavement — and Pushkin PR has worked proactively to get their insights in front of the widest possible audience. That has included placements in national outlets like ABC News, Good Morning America, and Hospice News, as well as local coverage on 9NEWS featuring Judi’s House CEO Dr. Micki Burns discussing how to help children cope with grief. By consistently identifying timely angles — from the war in Ukraine to the rise in childhood bereavement demand — Pushkin PR has helped position Judi’s House experts as the go-to voices on this topic across local, trade, and national media.

What results has Pushkin PR's ongoing work generated for Judi's House?

The results span two distinct areas. On the facility launch side, the Aurora grand opening generated coverage across every Denver TV network and multiple publications — introducing a new community to Judi’s House and its free services at a critical moment of growth. On the thought leadership side, placements in outlets like ABC News and Good Morning America elevated the organization’s national profile and positioned its clinical team as credible, go-to experts. The 1 in 12 campaign extended that reach further, creating a public-facing platform that gives the research real-world resonance.
